P0465 Trouble Code: Purge Flow Sensor Circuit Malfunction (OBD-II )
DTC Code P0465 General Description
The purge flow sensor (PFS) is usually located near the fuel tank or on top of the fuel pump. The sensor converts pressure from the EVAP system into an electrical signal sent to the PCM (Power Master Control Module).
The signal received by the PCM is used to determine the amount of fuel to be injected into the engine and the amount of fuel entering the intake manifold from the evaporative emission control system.1
If this input signal does not match the expected signal established by the manufacturer in the PCM memory, the DTC code P0465 OBDII will be stored.
- Check engine light comes on.
- Fuel efficiency is reduced.
Cause of OBD2 code P0465 Generic
Diagnostic code P0465 OBD2 is set for the following reasons:
- Electrical circuit or connector may be defective.
- There may be an open circuit in the purge flow sensor signal.
- The purge flow sensor signal circuit may be shorted to ground or voltage.
- The purge flow sensor may be defective.
Possible solutions for DTC code P0465 Generic
To solve the fault code P0465 OBDII, you must do the following.
- To properly begin the diagnosis, you should refer to the available TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for the vehicle information source.
- Locate the purge flow sensor and verify that its circuitry has not damaged its wiring or connectors. Repair or replace as needed.
- Use a multimeter to verify that the power supply to the purge flow sensor is as described in the service manual. If not, repair the power supply or ground wire.
- Use a voltmeter to verify that the voltage between the power terminal and the signal terminal is 5 V. If not, repair the signal wire.
- Perform a purge flow sensor resistance check. The value obtained must be the same as the value specified in the service manual. If it does not match, replace it.
